I am brand new to this and have started a forum on our site. I am experiencing a good deal of spam already. I know this is a very basic question, but would anyone please tell me how to require users to register and activate their accounts before posting?
My forum is identical to this one.

If you go into the Administration section and under General Admin. Click on Configuration. From there you can Select either USER or ADMIN for the activation method.
I would suggest checking out phpBB.com and their MODS section on the various mods to help reduce spammers.
It’s a tough battle, and I delete (and ban by IP Address) many of the spammers on a daily basis and it’s still tough.
