php or joomla?

hi all…we are freshers in php. we know little about joomla. we would like to start a project for students.
our requirement is
-----forums.
----dashboard(like facebook comments)
----job portal( directory type)
-----events( directory type)
----well linking with social media operations.
----messaging (inbox, sent,compose)
everything is fine. we have well devoloped documentation( uml designs).
our problem is
-----------which language , we have to choose PHP/JOOMLA.
----------- we have 50% operations are based on CMS. 50% are computations.
--------------we have time duration 4 months.
our thought is … joining joomla and php…i,e cms in joomla( one subdomain) another in php.
can we integrate project like that?
if integrate what is the problem?
please …
please help me…very urgent.

Joomla is not a language (I may be understanding the question your asking wrong). Joomla is a Content Management System written in PHP using MySQL as a database so if your choosing between Joomla and PHP it is not a choice point… Since Joomla is writen in PHP.

The second question is answered by the first write the CMS stuff using Joomla and the computations using PHP scripts called by Joomla.

4 Months is plenty of time… If your open to options look into Drupal (also PHP and MySQL) they have a modules system that will basically set all your options up for you with out any actual coding.

If you need more suggestions let me know but I would go to barnes and noble and grab the O’Riley Drupal book it literally has cook book recipes for all your needs.
