PHP Include Problems

I’m trying to put in a simple .php include into a single-post page to update certain information at the bottom of the post, site wide with the standard php include command, however it keeps returning

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected 're' (T_STRING), expecting ',' or ';' in /home/content/p3pnexwpnas10_data03/91/2485991/html/wp-content/themes/CampBlood/news.php on line 5

The include is just

Why are you echoing a bunch of html? Get rid of the PHP tags and the echo.

Can you tell that I’m a noob? I was pulling together my extremely limited knowledge of includes from years ago and combining it with some stuff I found around the interwebz. Thanks for setting me straight.
