Hiring a developer with no PHP background to work on my site written in PHP

HELP! I’m meeting with a developer, who claims he can make small changes to my site landing page. He has no PHP experience listed on his resume and his background is primarily doing JavaEE. I’m just the designer of the software and since I lost my original developer; I’m afraid of letting anyone mess with my encrypted code. So, should I allow this guy, who has extensive background in Java and a long list of other languages, but no PHP touch my code???
