I would like to set up a folder (httpS://user:[email protected]/file) so that only an authorised user can access to a particular stored on that folder. Is there a way to do that please?
I have subscribed a Linux hosting package with 1and1.

Yes, that can be done. There are many ways to do this.

Another way would be to just password the folder and use SESSION variables to allow access to it.
A person would log in to the site and be allowed to use the folder all others would drop out…
