"Can't load mysql extension error"

Good Morning.
I am installing phpMyAdmin and Zend Optimiser.
I have followed the relevant install notes for both. I am running apache 2 and php5 these work ok together. MySQL is installed and checks ok with the command line client. I have added the appropriate line to the windows path.
The problem ocurs when I access phpMyAdmin via the server (http:/WEBS/Restricted/phpMyAdmin) I receive an error
‘Cannot load mysql extension. Please check your PHP configuration. - Documentation’

The appropriate line is added to httpd.conf in the server

Anyone have a few pointers as where the problem might be???

Please??

Mike

Is the mysql extension enabled in your php.ini file?

yes, I believe so, the extension is uncommented.
