Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘<’ in /home/content/08/4927508/html/wordpress/wp-content/themes/modularity-lite/functions.php on line 228

is what i get when i try to access my site online…
so i logged in to ftp and found the functions.php file, deleted the addition i made, tried to save it and got
"couldnt save - The file “functions.php” is read-only. Attempt to overwrite? " so i clicked yes
and got this “Couldn’t save document as “functions.php” in folder “modularity-lite”.” so i tried saving it to desktop and dragging the new file into the modularity lite folder and got this "

the item “functions.php” can not be moved because modularity-lite can not be modified.

Its for a business and i cant leave with the site down, pleaseee help

Have you tried to make sure that the modularity-lite folder is writable? It sounds like maybe permissions aren’t set, though usually they should be set to writable for the owner of the folder (presumably you). This could also happen if you logged onto your FTP anonymously, though by rights if you did that, you shouldn’t be able to even reach that folder.

I would try to give you better, more detailed info and instructions, but I don’t know which FTP client you use, and even if I did, I don’t know the procedures for each and every FTP client. However, that said, if you can provide some details here, I’ll TRY to assist however I can.
