Hi, I am relitivly new to php and totaly new to the site. I have ftp access to a site, and I am wondering if i can make myself an admin just through ftp (change a file and upload it)

If you are trying to use PHP to access files via FTP you need to ensure that the user that the script runs as (likely your webserver) has the appropriate ADMIN priveleges.
FTP is generally a LEAN protocol (Limited commands) and there is not a method provided in that protocol to change your user access level. That is not to say that it cannot be done, however to do it would require less than ethical methods and this is not a forum for that.
