Join and Leftjoin help

and i dont understand why we need both of them?
What really did left join? i mean the function "*** on" what the on did for the query?
thanks a lot for helpers and for all this forum that help me and others

I do not use join's much, but, here are two nice tutorials on how they work.

This one is simple and down-to-earth.  Press next-chapter link to continue to more and more...

This one has tutorials on many many different types of joins.  Press on a link to a type of join and it will take you to a lot of info on it with examples.  I suggest walking thru the plain "join" link first...
